Name the pests, and name the exclusions

Target pests: ants (excluding carpenter ants), cockroaches, spiders, silverfish, mice and rats. Not covered: termites and wood-destroying organisms, bed bugs, stinging insects in structural voids, wildlife, fleas.

A customer who buys “pest control” believes they bought all pests. Every uncovered species that turns up afterwards is a dispute unless the quote already answered it.

Quote the one-off and the plan together

  • One-off treatment — initial visit plus one follow-up — $X
  • Quarterly plan — initial treatment plus 4 visits per year, re-treatment guarantee included — $Y per quarter

Set out side by side, the plan usually wins, because the customer can see that ongoing protection costs barely more than treating the same problem twice. That is where the recurring revenue in this business comes from.

The guarantee is the product

On a plan, what the customer is actually buying is not the treatment — it is not having to think about it again.

Covered pests returning between scheduled visits are re-treated at no additional charge.

Then state the limits: uncovered pests, new infestations from an adjacent property, and properties where recommended preparation was not completed.

Preparation, before treatment day

For bed bug and cockroach work, put the preparation requirements on the quote — laundering, decluttering, emptying cabinets, access to perimeters.

A customer who first hears this on treatment day is a customer who is not ready, and that is a wasted visit that neither of you wanted.

Licence details

Business licence and applicator certification on the document. It is required information in most states and it separates you from an unlicensed operator quoting lower.

Turning quotes into a plan book

Housecall Pro manages recurring service plans best of the three, with five seats at $189/mo — relevant because the whole business model here is the plan base. Jobber at $49/mo handles recurring visits and billing well for a smaller route. QuoteIQ at $29.99/mo suits a solo operator starting out.

Questions operators actually ask

What should a pest control quote include?

The target pests named specifically, the initial treatment and any follow-ups included, the ongoing plan options with frequency and price, the re-treatment guarantee, required customer preparation, and your licence details. Naming the pests is the most important part.

Should I quote one-off treatment or a plan?

Both, side by side. A one-off price and a quarterly plan price lets the customer see that ongoing protection costs little more than treating the problem twice. Most recurring pest control revenue comes from customers who started with a one-off.

How do I present the guarantee?

As a benefit of the plan, with its limits stated. 'Covered pests returning between visits are re-treated at no charge' is what people are buying. Then name the exclusions so it is a real promise rather than one you will argue about.

Should preparation be on the quote?

For bed bugs and cockroaches, absolutely. Treatment fails without it, and a customer who first hears about laundering everything on treatment day will not be ready — which costs you the visit.

How long should the quote be valid?

Thirty days. Pest pressure is seasonal and a summer quote accepted in autumn is a different job.
